Everestpoker.nl – My Recent Tournaments

March 29th, 2009

Everestpoker.nl – My weekly live tournament last time around was a truly memorable occassion as I came back from the brink of elimination early on to win. This week I hoped to even come close to emulating my success last week, but playing a final table of an Omaha tournament online just before I left for my local Holdem tournament did not help me much.

When I began playing, I found myself in a rather different, high tempo frame of mind, and made a bad read to bluff off 2,000 of my 6,000 chips in the first three hands. After taking a little while to settle down and stop throwing chips around, I realised I had only 2,800 left with a field of 21 players still intact. After seeing my big blind flat called by three players I managed to double up after trying to pick up the blinds by moving all in with a small pair, and being called by two overcards. From there I started playing better poker and my chipstack soon began to grow.

Before I knew it I had made it to the final table, although I wasn’t a particularly big stack with 11,000. After a good fold when I had 5,000 already commited to a hand, I made an all in move with (Kd,10d) from late position, walking into (Ad,Ah) in the small blind. My luck saved me though, as my flush draw on the flop was completed on the turn, and I continued to get busy from there until we were 3 handed. I had to find some luck again when one of my blind steals went awry with (9s,2s) and my opponent quickly called with (A,K) but a (9) on the turn eliminated him to take us heads up.

After a drawn out heads up battle, I eventually lost after getting it all in with (Ac,Qc) against (5,5) and my opponent flopping his set. I had a chance to win it early on if I had called an all in with a very small pair, but a second place following a first place last week, certainly isn’t anything to complain about. www.everestpoker.nl

Betsson.com – Enjoying Playing Poker Too Much

March 16th, 2009

www.betsson.com – For most of us, including myself, there is simply no such thing as sitting down and playing poker too often, however there is certainly some points to be made about wanting to get involved in pots and play too much.

PLAY NOW

There is a great deal of patience involved in playing solid poker, and for some players like me, that in itself isn’t the real problem. I can be patient when I need to be, but particularly in the early stages of a tournament I find myself keen to take flops and try to play some good poker on the flop. I suppose this is partly to get myself in the frame of mind where I am reading situations and making decisions. I suppose you could say that it’s easier to make a mistake in the first hand of a tournament than after being involved in several hands.

However, in my most recent live event, I made a decision beforehand to play tighter in the early stages and only get involved when I had some strong cards to back myself up. This worked a treat especially considering my reputation as an aggressive player who likes to bluff. This sudden change of results has made me think more carefully about my early play in tournaments, and how it is too easy to think it is very cheap to see a flop from late position. This doesn’t seem to be conducive to good results though, at least for me, and so next week, I shall be sticking to the tighter play and hopefully continuing to see better results. betsson.nl

Titanpoker.com – Turning Battles into Skirmishes

March 11th, 2009

www.titanpoker.com – When examining my recent tournament play in detail, I felt I could accurately pinpoint problems with my past struggles in the earlier part of MTT’s and reasons for success in my most recent game.

PLAY NOW

There were one or two aspects of my game that I approched differently, and upon thinking carefully about what had unfolded during the game, I realised that I hadn’t been all in against a bigger stack until there were only 4 of us left. I had made one excellent call for most of my chips earlier on, but the point was, I was taking care not to risk all my chips or even half of my chips to any hand I wasn’t certain I was winning. I made only one sizeable bluff all night (only because I had a tell), and when I got involved in a hand I made sure I had good cards to play with.

It isn’t always easy to keep pots from escalating, as your opponent can push all in whenever they please, but what you can do is make sure that you are cautious enough to only call when you are sure of your hand.
The key point to remember is that no matter how strong a player you are, you should always try and leave yourself room for error where possible. As long as you have chips in front of you, there will always be another chance to double your stack, and there is no shame in waiting until a better chance presents itself.

I certainly know that the next time I play, I will adopt a careful approach to the earlier part of the tournament, and look to slowly build my stack rather than get dragged into big pots when I am not completely certain of the outcome. Titanpoker.nl

Everestpoker.nl – Reasons to Love Omaha

March 4th, 2009

Everest Poker – Whilst you cannot completely throw caution to the wind in Omaha, there is certainly room to see far more flops and get much more fun for your time. It is nice to make money while playing poker, but if you are not enjoying playing too, then I don’t really see that there’s much point playing.

If you have spent too much time watching Holdem hands go by one after another with no hole cards of interest, give yourself a break from this cycle.

As long as the stakes are fairly low, you can play a game of Omaha feeling a great deal less stressed or bored. If you are already a player who plays lots of Omaha, you will understand the next reason to love the game. The Holdem players who sit down and play like they are still in a Holdem game.
These types of players do not care what cards come out on the board, if they have a pair of Queens, Kings, or Aces in their hole cards they will not fold. Ever.

My third favourite reason to love Omaha, is that the potential nuts can change on the flop, turn, and river, often leaving a lot of players very frustrated when they get outdrawn. Most of these players do not understand that you had a total of about 16 outs and the pot odds were correct for you to call of course, they simply see themselves get outdrawn and then start telling you how much of a fish you are.

Generally amusing fun all round then, and as much as I love Holdem, Omaha is always a welcome change when the going gets tough. Everestpoker

Everestpoker.nl – Suited and Semi Connected Cards

February 19th, 2009

Everestpoker.nl – As far as playing Holdem is concerned, suited middle ranking cards, as well as semi connected, are not particularly strong at all. Having said this though, there is a time and a place to play them, and I would never simply fold them outright. Funnily enough, the hands that I would immediately discard on a full table, include (A,2) and (A,3), but not (7,9) suited.

The reason for this is simple. if you are involved in a pot, you will often be better off raising the pot preflop, or you may have to call a small raise to see a flop. In this instance, there are so many scenarios in which a very small ace will end up being dominated by a bigger one, that I simply wouldn’t consider playing this type of hand unless I was heads up, or had no choice.

Holding hands containing suited and semi connected cards, immediately gives you the element of surprise and can contribute to you winning a much bigger pot. Although, I have to stress that in Holdem, you should not call any sort of sizeable raise with these cards as you will be going into the flop behind.

The potential in Omaha I feel, is even more so, as you have the contingent of players who hold on to big pairs and even two big cards such as (A,K,7,3), for dear life.
So when you pick up your big draws, with omaha hands such as (5s,6s,7d,8d), try and single out the players who are clinging onto big pairs, but also be aware of flush draws. Even if the flush draw is yours and it hits, you want to have narrowed the pot to have any chance of winning with the best flush.Everestpoker.nl

Everestpoker.nl – Coming Back From a Shortstack

February 9th, 2009

everestpoker.nl – It’s never a position that we wish to be in as poker players, but at some point we will all have to deal with playing as a shortstack in a tournament. Opposing players tend to put pressure on you, and you feel concerned about getting involved in a pot due to the fact that you will find yourself with most of your chips committed very quickly.

PLAY NOW

On a personal note, I feel it is essential to alter your play in this situation. Once you get to a certain point, I feel you should play tight and wait for a hand, for as long as the blinds allow you to. Whilst doing this, you can look for any opportunity to suddenly open up with a strong play to win a pot. My preference is to do this in such a way as to either pick up the blinds preflop, or end up being called and having to take a gamble. You can certainly say that you never want to get your chips in as an underdog in poker, but if the primary plan of stealing some blinds goes wrong and you get called, you always give yourself the possibility of getting lucky and doubling through.

In this way, you will find yourself either picking up chips to stay afloat whilst you wait for the big hole cards you need to double through, or getting called and needing some luck. But either way, you have to say that this is better than simply waiting and being blinded off to the point where, when you finally do find that hand, the double up that follows still leaves you short on chips. Everestpoker.nl – Be Careful What You Wish For

January 15th, 2009

As the saying goes, ‘be careful what you wish for…because you just might get it’.
Picking up (7,7) on the second hand of my local tournament today, I put out a preflop raise of 300, with the blinds at 50/100. One player flat called, and the flop came (5,6,9). Having found some interest in the form of second pair and an inside straight draw, I bet out 600 to see where my opponent was, and was quickly flat called.

The turn was a 7 for a board of (5,6,9,7), which brought the obvious concern of the straight, and I really felt I was about to get myself into trouble unless the board paired on the river. Even so, I pushed out another bet of 600, and was again flat called. The frustrating part was that the flat calling from my opponent, really wasn’t giving me as much information as I wanted. Surely if he had a straight he would reraise? Either way, I found myself wishing for the board to pair, and to my relief, another 6 hit on the river to give a board of (5,6,9,7,6).
I fired out 2,000 on the assumption that he had invested enough (hopefully with a straight) to call, and with any luck he might reraise. My opponent did not raise however, only calling, then flipping over (9,9) for a bigger full house. It is quite beyond me why he didn’t reraise at any point during the hand, but I had to count myself lucky. If he had pushed all in over the top of my raise on the river, I honestly don’t know if I could have folded the hand.

But then it just goes to show how strange pokeren can be.
I was wishing for the board to pair, which it did, sealing my fate when it fell. But after hoping to be reraised on the river, the very fact that I wasn’t….ended up saving my tournament life.

VCpoker.nl – Poker

January 9th, 2009

www.vcpoker.com – Pokeren is one of the most popular and well known card games of all time, played by millions all over the world.

At free online casinos and poker rooms you can play all your favourite poker games and with so many variations of this wonderful game you will never get bored of playing.

Nu Spelen

There are the classics such as 5 and 7 card stud, or other less known options like Chicago and lowball.

However, if it’s the game of all games you’re after then I would recommend Texas Hold’ Em every time.

This game is as close to perfection as you will find in the world of poker. It’s fun, exciting and thrilling to play. The aim of the game is to beat and bluff your way through each hand, fending off all of your opponents and knocking them out one by one.

Firstly, you are dealt your two hole cards, these are yours and yours alone and no one else will see them. You make your first bet based on what you have in your hand and then comes the flop. These three cards are for all the players and again you bet. Another card comes, forth street, do you still have what it takes to win? If so you bet again until the final card is drawn and laid on the table, the river. This completes the dealing of the cards and it’s now showdown time. Will you have the hand you hoped for or will you have to bluff your way to victory? Who knows?

All I know is you will have so much fun finding out, so head on over to the free poker rooms now and don’t forget to take your poker face with you.

everestpoker.nl – Running a Poker Game

January 1st, 2009

everestpoker – It can be difficult to run a poker game, and although I have never run anything more than a home game, I go to a local game run by a very friendly couple, and have seen the effort that goes into running a real tournament.

For Pokeren CLICK HERE

Player names and who has paid their entry fees must be carefully noted, with the appropriate number of seats being set out along with chipstacks of the exact same amounts. The rules of the tournaments must be understood by all players, and if there is a league in place, scores must be calculated with the utmost accuracy.
If there is no professional dealer present, players must deal themselves, with a dealer button moving around the table, and new players must sometimes be given help to understand the way in which tournaments work.

Setting up a home game is a little easier, with players being invited usually being friends, who are already familiar with the game. The problem with inviting strangers to a home game, is that you never know their temprament, and what they might do if they lose a big pot. Generally speaking, setting up a home game only involves some sort of playing surface being set up, friends being invited, and a few relaxed drinks. The same rules will probably apply in terms of dealer buttons being used to determine the player who is dealing and suchlike.

The most important thing I feel, is that players do not lose more than they can afford to, and that everyone has an enjoyable evening.

Everestpoker.nl – World Cup Trophy

December 25th, 2008

everest poker – Australia has one hand firmly wrapped around the World Cup trophy after they brushed aside a lackluster Great Britain outfit last night at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne.

For Pokeren KLIK HEIR

In a superlative display, the Kangaroos ran in nine tries to one with superstars Billy Slater and Greg Inglis both bagging hat tricks and Joel Monaghan scoring his second international try since debuting against New Zealand last week.

The Kangaroos had a cloud over them all week with likelihood that Jonathon Thurstons, who was man of the match in the Wolr Cup opener, would miss the game against Great Britain.

As it turns out Thurstons was unable to play and his understudy, Scott prince filled the gap nicely, directing play as well as slotting eight goals from ten attempts.

Prince and Lockyer looked as though they’d been playing together for years and showed all the polish of well drilled a halves combination which is testament to the depth of talent in Australian Rugby League right now.

Great Britain simply just did not turn up. Starved of the ball through relentless Australian attack, the poms were out of the race well before half time and never looked in the match.

Adding insult to injury was a miracle try from a Great Britain restart that handed Anthony Lefranchi his first international try and pushed the Kangaroos over the 50-point mark.

After two clinical performances against teams who were regarded as Australia’s biggest competition, it looks unlikely that any nation will cause an upset and take the cup home with them.
